Draw the ab muscles inwards and count 1 through 6. Then stand up and loosen the tightened stomach. Repeat 6 times without a break, then take rest in Shavasana (Corpse Posture). This was Uddiyana (Abdomen Retraction).

Procedure II (Nauli): When you have practiced Uddiyan for quite a while, you are ready to go the next level called "Nauli" or "Isolation of the Rectus Abdominis Muscles". Standing in Uddiyana posture, expand just the central ab muscles by exhaling and holding the breath for 6 seconds. Note: the two sides of the belly will still remain retracted. Repeat 6 times continuously, then take rest in Shavasana (Corpse Posture).
