Ketu, the South Node of the Moon means a "sign" or "banner" in Sanskrit, the ancient language of the Indian sub-continent. If Rahu, the North Node of the Moon is the planet of worldly desires, then Ketu - the Moon's South Node signifies a detachment from the material world. Ketu represents spirituality. Ketu is considered to be harmful in terms of material gains but in doing so it awakens one's senses towards the real meaning of life & imparts a sense of spirituality in a person. Ketu attains full maturity at a late age of 48; generally at this age people have experienced all the benefits of materialism and some have realized its emptiness. This is when the soul turns towards the pursuit of final liberation from this material world.
